It’s H-E-B vs. Trader Joe’s for biggest rise in grocery store visits nationwide

San Antonio-based grocery chain H-E-B and California-born Trader Joe’s are going head to head for the nation’s biggest rise in grocery store visits.

That’s according to a Monday report from grocery news outlet Progressive Grocer, which published an analysis on which U.S. grocery stores are seeing the steepest increases in monthly visits for 2026 so far. Progressive Grocer used data compiled by retail analytics firm Placer Labs Inc.

The report states that “monthly store visits to both retailers have outperformed the overall grocery category,” with visits to H-E-B increasing by 8.5% in January compared to the same time frame last year. Meanwhile, visits to Trader Joe’s saw a 9% increase over the same time period…
