Mitsubishi Recalls Over 108,000 Vehicles for Liftgate Safety Issue

Additional Coverage:

Mitsubishi is issuing a recall for more than 108,000 vehicles in the United States due to a potential safety concern involving the liftgate gas spring cylinders, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced.

The recall addresses a problem where the liftgate gas spring cylinders may corrode and lose pressure over time. This degradation can lead to the gas spring cylinder rupturing or the liftgate unexpectedly falling, posing an increased risk of injury to vehicle occupants or bystanders.

This latest recall expands upon an earlier action from August 2025, which covered over 90,000 vehicles.

Affected Mitsubishi models include:

  • 2018 to 2022 Outlander PHEV
  • 2014 to 2020 Outlander

Mitsubishi will replace the left and right liftgate gas springs at no cost to owners. Notification letters are scheduled to be sent out starting June 17. Vehicle owners with questions or concerns can reach Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820, referencing recall number SR-26-001.

Owners of the affected vehicles are encouraged to take prompt action to ensure their safety and that of others.
