‘Forcing parents to make impossible decisions’: Ohio lawmakers back legislation for paid medical leave

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two Ohio lawmakers from opposite parties are backing new legislation they say would give millions of workers access to paid time off for major life events, including caring for a newborn or an aging parent.

The proposal, Senate Bill 396, was introduced by State Senators Beth Liston, a Democrat from Dublin, and Louis Blessing, a Republican from Colerain Township. The bipartisan measure would create a statewide paid family and medical leave program.
