AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Newly-released records show a dramatic spike in drug-related incidents at the Airway Heights Corrections Center. Last month alone, the center reported nearly 90 incidents. That’s more than triple the typical monthly average.
Right now, the Washington Department of Corrections is investigating what caused the surge that one official calls “the worst we’ve ever seen” at the center.
For the past two years, drug-related incidents at the state prison in Airway Heights averaged about 28 a month. But in March, that number jumped to 89 incidents. The DOC says right now its top priority is addressing this spike and the greater drug issue in its system…
