In Gwinnett County, the final suspect accused in a brutal home invasion that left a man dead has been captured and brought back to face charges, officials say. With his arrest, all four people charged in the killing of Oscar Cruz are now being held in the county jail. The case, which rattled neighbors last summer, began after a late-night meeting and ended with Cruz’s body found in a church parking lot.
All four suspects now in custody
Police say 28-year-old Dion Patterson was located in Illinois and transported back to Gwinnett County this week. He now joins Raymond Cooper, Michael Golden and Javon Wilson in custody. Authorities say Patterson was brought into the system Wednesday night and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. According to WSB-TV, the arrest caps a months-long search for the last suspect in the case.
What investigators say happened
Court documents and testimony reviewed by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution say the four men met Cruz at a Waffle House in the early hours of July 22, then drove to his home on Gin Blossom Circle. There, investigators say he was bound with duct tape and his wife was threatened. Authorities allege the suspects took roughly $3,000 and a quantity of drugs before moving Cruz to Cannon United Methodist Church on Webb Gin House Road, where he was found shot about 17 times. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports those details are drawn from arrest warrants and preliminary court testimony in the case.
