Bald eagle ‘Dora’ released after injury recovery

Dora’s journey to recovery didn’t come easy. The adult female bald eagle was brought to the Tamarack Wildlife Center after suffering many injuries that left her unable to survive on her own.

“I got the call, came on scene, just went to check it out. Kinda see what’s going on. Usually, in a situation like that, we just go assess it, see if the bird actually does need to be captured or if we can just let it do its thing and hopefully recover. In this case, the bird didn’t really seem flightful, couldn’t really take off,” Jonathon Boland, State Game Warden for Erie County, said.

When the eagle was transferred to Tamarack Rehabilitation Center, she was immediately taken into care, where they noticed wounds in the head area.

“What we found was she had a concussion, she had some lower levels of lead poisoning, which can cause them to have poor reaction time and then she also had damage to her beak,” Carol Holmgren, Executive Director of Tamarack Wildlife Center, said…
