Mathews County residents warned about cocaine-laced currency

(WAVY) – On Friday, the Mathews County Sheriff’s office issued a public safety alert after a citizen in Port Haywood found two tightly folded dollar bills that later tested positive for cocaine. The alert warns residents about the potential dangers of handling such bills, which drug users may discard.

The tightly folded currency is described as a method used by drug users to carry powder drugs in their wallets, enabling them to quickly dispose of the evidence if law enforcement approaches. The discovery by a Port Haywood citizen prompted the sheriff’s office to test the bills for illicit substances.
