Highway 100 Mayhem As Bloomington Cops End Wild Chase With Crash And Pond Arrest

A stolen-vehicle pursuit that kicked off in Bloomington on Thursday morning ended in high drama on Highway 100 just north of Interstate 394, with a crash, a frantic foot chase caught on traffic cameras and two suspects ultimately in handcuffs. Video shows two men darting across lanes of traffic and disappearing into wooded areas before officers and a K-9 closed in. Police say it all started with calls about a stolen car and an attempted break-in in the 97th Street area. Both suspects were later taken to a hospital for injuries they picked up while trying to get away.

How The Chase Began

According to Bloomington police, officers were dispatched around 7:20 a.m. to the 100 block of West 97th Street after a report of a stolen vehicle. A second caller reported someone trying to get into a home in the same area. As reported by CBS Minnesota, officers quickly spotted the suspected vehicle and noticed pry marks on a door, but the driver refused to stop. That decision kicked off a pursuit that pulled in multiple agencies and rolled out of the neighborhood toward the highway, turning a quiet residential call into a rolling police chase.

Crash On Highway 100

State traffic cameras captured the pursuit as it spilled onto Highway 100. Video shows the fleeing vehicle hitting another car near 98th Street and Lyndale Avenue, then the driver bailing out and jumping into a second stolen SUV. The black SUV later spins out and loses control just north of I-394, where officers say stop sticks were used and the chase finally came to a halt. FOX 9 captured footage of the crash and of the suspects sprinting across live traffic lanes as drivers hit the brakes.

Foot Chase And Arrests

Once the SUV wrecked, two people jumped out and bolted across Highway 100 into a grassy, wooded area, briefly disappearing from view. Police say a K-9 team tracked one suspect, while the other was later found hiding in a body of water and surrendered rather than try to swim away again. KSTP reports the suspects are a 27-year-old and a 20-year-old, both from Minneapolis. They were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries from the incident and are expected to be OK. Bloomington police say the case remains under investigation…
