Red sludge in yards shows how close Ponds Fire got to homes

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A fast-moving wildfire on the west edge of Fort Collins burned about 8.4 acres Thursday, forced evacuations and left one firefighter injured, as crews worked into Friday afternoon.

The Ponds Fire ignited at approximately 4:42 p.m. Thursday in the Maxwell Natural Area, with emergency crews dispatched less than a minute later and arriving on scene by 4:50 p.m., according to Poudre Fire Authority.
