City of Chandler strengthens protections against food and drink spiking

CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — The city of Chandler is looking to beef up its enforcement against suspects who spike other people’s food or drinks with a new ordinance.

The Chandler City Council recently approved new rules that make it a class 1 misdemeanor for anyone who secretly tries to or intentionally puts any drug or toxic substance into someone else’s food or beverages.

Officials said it complements a state law that makes food and drink spiking a felony, so prosecution is easier and faster if the situation doesn’t meet the standards for a felony charge under Arizona law…
