DNA links suspect to two separate cold cases dating back 30+ years

BOSTON (WWLP) – State police have identified a man through DNA evidence in connection with two cold cases in Plymouth County dating back more than 30 years.

Authorities announced on Friday that investigators with the Massachusetts State Police, working alongside forensic scientists, determined that Robert Carey was responsible for the 1991 killing of Cherie Bishop and the 1993 sexual assault of Donna Bell in Brockton.

Officials said Carey is now deceased. The identification was made possible through continued forensic analysis and evidence review in the long-unsolved cases.

Authorities described the development as the result of decades of persistent investigative work as technology and DNA testing methods advanced.

Officials expressed hope that the findings would provide a sense of closure for the families of Bishop and Bell, as well as for others impacted by the two cases…
