New Surprise ICE facility will be located in ‘documented chemical hazard zone,’ AG Mayes says

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said one of the reasons she filed a lawsuit to stop an ICE facility from opening in Surprise is that the facility would be in a “documented chemical hazard zone.”

“We discovered something that should alarm every single resident of the northwest Valley,” Mayes said. “Directly across the street… from the planned detention center is a hazardous chemical storage facility operated by a company called Rincom,” Mayes said at a press conference outside of the proposed ICE facility.

Mayes said the proximity of the proposed ICE facility and the chemical and gas distribution center could pose a hazard to detainees…
