“Draw Near” will open May 1 at Spoonbill Gallery in Greenville.
The exhibition, which features works by Nashville-based artist Nathaniel Mather, will be at 1292 Pendleton St. through May 30.
He uses acrylic, oil pastel, paper, ink and sand on canvas to build his surfaces layer by layer, rearranging, subtracting and adding as the painting evolves. Mather also incorporates text, stamps and found materials to lend a sense of age, travel and lived experience to each piece, said the gallery in a news release.
“‘Draw Near’ is about presence,” said Rachel Bradley, gallery director with Spoonbill Gallery. “Nathaniel’s work carries a sincerity that resonates deeply. There is a childlike openness in his imagery, yet a maturity in the questions he wrestles with. This collection invites viewers into a quiet space of reflection and encounter.”…
