6 Farmers’ Markets, Cherry Picking, and Food Festivals in Contra Costa County This May

The last week of April and the full month of May bring a generous parade of food-centered gatherings across Contra Costa County — from the cherry orchards of Brentwood to a brand-new Saturday market opening in Pleasant Hill. A planning list, then, for those who prefer to mark their calendars in pen.

### 1. Brentwood Cherry U-Pick SeasonDates: Now through approximately mid-June.

Where: Multiple Brentwood orchards, including Marsh Creek Cherries at 1751 Orchard Lane and Three Nunns Farm at 550 Walnut Boulevard. Cost: Sold by the pound; varies by farm. The 2026 season opened April 25 at G&S Farm’s Dixon Orchard, and Harvest Time in Brentwood notes that local growers “have thoughtfully planted dozens of cherry varieties that ripen in stages, one after another.” A wonderful outing with grandchildren — the orchards are largely flat and stroller-friendly.

### 2. Pleasant Hill Night Market — AANHPI Heritage KickoffDate: Friday, May 1, 5:00–9:00 p.m.

The second season of this city-organized market opens with a celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month — food vendors, a beer truck, live music, plus face painting and balloon animals for the little ones.
