New data shows recent pattern of fires, break-ins in Asheville’s River Arts District

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A major fire that tore through a future music venue in Asheville’s River Arts District is still under investigation, but new data suggests it may be part of a broader pattern of fire-related incidents in the area.

According to data from the Asheville Fire Department, crews have responded to 31 fire-related calls in the River Arts District so far in 2026, including four separate incidents over a four-day stretch from April 21 to April 24. Those incidents include structure fires, a working fire involving significant structural damage and smoke investigations, all within the same zone.

The largest of those fires heavily damaged a building slated to become the new home of Salvage Station, a popular Asheville music venue relocating to the district. The cause remains under investigation.
