BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Kern County’s latest weather system brought a generous serving of rainfall to the area from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning. Several locations between the mountains and the west-facing foothills picked up an inch or more, with Havilah leading the pack at 1.58″. A narrow band of showers moved across the Mojave area giving that part of the desert 0.37″, which is quite impressive considering the geography and surrounding observations. Many South Valley rain gauges saw at least a tenth of an inch, which is respectable considering we are just days away from the month of May.
Today, the West Coast trough is still with us, with just enough lift, along with moisture and perhaps even a touch of instability for the potential of isolated to widely scattered showers. These will be most likely during the early morning hours, but the chance will remain even into the afternoon.
Daytime temperatures will be cool, especially for late April standards, with afternoon readings struggling to reach 70 across the South Valley. The same can be said for the desert. Mountain towns will be in the mid 50s, which will be opportune for jackets and sweaters.
A steady warmup is currently in the forecast from Tuesday toward the next weekend…
