Grab and go: BCSD has a new summer food program

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. — The Beaufort County School District (BCSD) is launching a new summer food program called Groceries-To-Go.

Children under 18 who qualify can get free weekly grab-and-go breakfast and lunch meal kits during the summer months.

“We want them to eat healthy,” said Walter Moody, General Manager Food and Nutrition for Beaufort County Schools. “We’re giving fresh fruits and vegetables from our local Gullah Farmers Cooperative. So we’re getting fresh local produce from the area we’re getting in. You know, obviously fresh fruits and vegetables, and then different types of proteins. And obviously, if the parents want to, the kids can help prepare the meals as well. We’re giving them step-by-step instructions on how to prepare each meal each day.”…
