May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, a time to recognize the histories, cultures and contributions of AANHPI communities across Oregon. From long-standing traditions to newer collaborations, this year’s lineup reflects both the diversity of these communities and a growing emphasis on connection, visibility and shared storytelling.
Across the Portland metro area and beyond, organizations, artists and community groups are marking the month with cultural festivals, food events, performances and educational programming. Some events spotlight specific cultural traditions, while others bring together multiple communities under one shared theme.

Lan Su Chinese Garden
Lan Su’s AANHPI Heritage Month celebration, Celebrate Our Stories!, features programming May 1-31 in partnership with more than 20 local cultural organizations, artists and performers. “Threading Together,” a special exhibit of traditional AANHPI attire, will be on view May 1-June 21, showcasing garments that tell stories of heritage, identity and cultural expression.
