Suffolk superintendent named Virginia Superintendent of the Year

SUFFOLK, Va. — The superintendent of Suffolk Public Schools has been named Virginia Superintendent of the Year, a top honor recognizing educational leadership across the commonwealth.

The award follows Dr. John B. Gordon III’s earlier selection as Region 2 Superintendent of the Year. Gordon has led the school division since 2019, focusing on academic achievement, workforce readiness, and community partnerships.

During his tenure, Suffolk Public Schools launched several initiatives, including a performing and production arts center at Lakeland High School and a STEM Academy at Booker T.
