Suspect in custody after weekend mayhem in the Midlands

Weekend mayhem in the Midlands has a suspect facing multiple charges. The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy initiated a traffic stop which led to a chase across the Midlands, Saturday. The driver identified as 26 year old, Jose Salas Jr. reportedly refused to stop and drove into the town of Prosperity and then onto I-26.

The chase reached reported speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department then picked up the pursuit near Chapin. Salas then exited from I-26 at Harbison Boulevard back towards Newberry County.

The pursuit ended when he then lost control of the vehicle and crashed. A k-9 Unit was deployed and Salas was taken into custody. He’s charged in Newberry County with failure to stop, intent to distribute marijuana, and multiple traffic violations…
