Wildfire threat remains high as incoming rain offers hope but not relief from drought

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Right now, we’re seeing fires burning in Brantley County and nearby parts of the Jacksonville area.

I’m watching minute by minute as the situation changes—wind gusts aren’t very strong, but even the slightest breeze can make a big difference when it comes to wildfires.

The visibility near Waycross has really dropped because of all the smoke. That’s definitely affecting the air quality, and as the smoke drifts west, it’s something we need to keep a close eye on. The direction of the wind could easily change where that smoke and fire move next…
