Two Hikers Rescued in Overnight Operation After Getting Stranded in McCoy Canyon Near Goleta

The Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue (SBCSAR) safely rescued two women in an overnight operation after being stranded during hiking in McCoy Canyon west of Goleta.

The hikers, who began their trip on Sunday afternoon from Lizard’s Mouth on West Camino Cielo, were planning to come down from McCoy Canyon to their home in Goleta after believing a trail would lead them out to Glen Annie Road, SBCSAR said in a Facebook post. However, the women came across thick brush, large boulders and steep waterfalls.

Authorities said the hikers eventually reached a vertical waterfall that they were unable to safely navigate and climb back out. They contacted a family member for help, and the husband of one of the women called 911…
