Deadline approaches for protesting property taxes in Texas

TEXAS — The deadline for property owners to protest their appraisals is just around the corner, and as Texans receive their appraisals in the mail, many say they plan to protest.

Travis County property owner Katie Fore has seen a lot of changes in recent years. When looking at the numbers, Fore says her “assessed value this year was pretty flat.” But she explains, “the land value has increased almost 200%.”

Increases like that are part of the reason experts say more Texans are choosing to push back. A new survey from property tax appeals platform Ownwell found that 76% of Texas property owners have seen noticeable increases in their property taxes and 67% were surprised or shocked by their most recent tax bill…
