MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. — A historic boat now rests 27 feet down. On the floor of the Chesapeake Bay, Freya was intentionally sunk to support marine life as part of an artificial reef project led by the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.
The 30-foot steel vessel was sunk near Windmill Point in the Rappahannock River, where it is expected to provide habitat for fish and other underwater species.
