STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Former NYPD Chief of Department John Chell, of Annadale, knows a potential bid for the 2029 mayoral race would be a tall order, but he isn’t letting the challenge influence his decision.
“Zohran Mamdani, who nobody knew a year and a half ago, no one could pronounce his name, they basically said, ‘This guy can’t win.’ Now we call him Mr. Mayor,” he said in an interview with the Advance/SILive.com. “President Trump, coming down the escalator, they laughed at him. Laughed at him. ‘He can’t win.’ Now we call him Mr. President, not once, but twice.”
