JOHNSTON, Iowa (KIMT) — LifeServe Blood Center is teaming up with MercyOne Air Med for an annual blood drive aimed at keeping life-saving blood supplies stocked for emergency flights.
The drive will take place May 22 from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at LifeServe’s Mason City Donor Center, located at 4700 Fourth Street Southwest in Suite E. MercyOne Air Med crews are also hosting a drive the same day in Des Moines at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, located at 1111 Sixth Avenue.
MercyOne’s Air Med program carries two units of O-negative blood on every flight. This allows crews to give blood to patients in life-threatening situations before they reach the hospital. Having blood available during flight can make a big difference for patients.
