PEARL, Miss. — University of Louisville Athletic Director Josh Heird was inducted into the Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony Tuesday night at the Muse Center on the Hinds-Rankin County campus.
Heird, a former Jones College soccer and track and field athlete, becomes the 23rd Bobcat enshrined in the state Hall of Fame. He played for Jones from 1998 to 2000, scoring the first goal in Jones soccer history with a penalty kick in a 1-1 tie against East Mississippi. He also scored in his next game against Hinds.
Mark Easley, who coached Heird at Jones, praised him, saying he was the face of the inaugural Bobcat soccer team and epitomized hard work, leadership, and sportsmanship. Heird earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Jones and continued his athletic career at Mississippi College, where he ran track, cross country, and played football.
