Furniture store aiming to change into mixed-use building

Developer and former Congressman Chris Jacobs said he’s almost ready to move forward with his plans for the former F. Scherer & Sons furniture store that is located on 122 Genesee St. The four-story building recently was added to the National Register of Historic Places, making it eligible for historic tax credits, as Jacobs wants to turn the 129-year-old furniture store into a mixed-use building with 22 market-rate apartments and two small first-floor commercial spaces.

Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan urged Buffalo Place yesterday that he wants to see the organization extend their activities to bring people downtown and not just attract them to events that are only held a few times a year. The city is surveying vacant retail stores and will work with property owners to try to find ways to reactivate buildings, with the goal to make downtown more appealing for visitors.

Daemen University is investing $5 million to renovate a new home for their physician assistant program. Daemen Hall, which has been used mostly by MusicalFare Theatre, is planned to be completed by Fall of 2027…
