WATERLOGGED: Rochester experiences wettest March-April in 153 years

Enough, already! With Wednesday’s rainfall, Rochester has picked up nearly 10″ of precipitation since the start of March. It’s a remarkable figure that no one alive today has witnessed in Rochester. It’s now the wettest March-April stretch in 153 years since the city picked up 11.73″ of March-April precipitation in 1873.

That record will be safe as April ends on Thursday and there is very little in the way of additional rainfall expected over those next 24 hours. As you might expect, all this rain has resulted in a surplus of water across our basins. Lake Ontario, for example, has risen a whopping 2.5 feet since March 1, well ahead of the traditional pace for spring.

This has some along the lakeshore on alert for what the future holds should more heavy rain fall and waters rise further.
