Rummage sale safety tips: shopping used items for kids

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A popular rummage sale is underway in Sioux Falls.The 49th Annual Kingswood Rummage Sales kick off today. While parents are looking for good deals on a variety of items for their children, they should also consider the condition of the products.

For Kingswood Rummage sale seller Adrianne Meyer, she has a few items for kids out for sale and she says she doesn’t hand something down that she wouldn’t consider buying herself.“I want to make sure it’s good quality and it will service its purpose for someone else. I also want try to make sure I’m pricing well just because sometimes you can go out to new stores and get things for just about the same price.” Kingswood Rummage sale seller Adrianne Meyer said.

Something that buyer Rachel Howard is aware of when shopping for summer toys for her little ones.“That the stuffed animals are in good and clean condition so that there’s nothing that can hurt them. My daughter is allergic to dogs so I check to make sure that it’s not been around dogs,” Kingswood buyer Rachel Howard said.

When bargain hunting for toys, it’s important to check that they are in good shape.“Broken items, tattered items, things that have long cords on them that could be dangerous for young children and then we would also discourage parents from buying car seats that are used,” Sanford community programs coordinator said Nancy Raether said…
