Family-run Tamashiro Market thanks community for ‘heartwarming’ support

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A beloved local business will soon say mahalo and close its doors. Tamashiro Market started serving the community in Kalihi nearly 80 years ago.

“I’ve come here with my parents since I was a little kid,” Kristianna, a loyal customer shopping in the store, said. “I’m now 41 years old, so that tells you we have a lot of history here.”

As owners Guy and Cyrus Tamashiro reconnect with long-time customers and meet new ones during the closing process, Cyrus said it’s been a “wonderful experience.”

“It’s been really, really heartwarming to see customers who are from a very long time ago and some very new customers, but they introduce themselves to us. They want to take selfies with us and they want us to autograph their shirts,” Cyrus said…
