I-40 West lane to close for several days in Haywood County for bridge work

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — One lane of Interstate 40 West in Haywood County will close for several days next week amid ongoing bridge replacement work.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said one lane of Interstate 40 West will close at Newfound Road (Exit 33) starting at 7 p.m. Monday, May 4, through 5 p.m. Thursday, May 7.

The lane closure is needed so contracted crews with Zachary Construction can prepare to shift traffic into a temporary alignment over Beaverdam Road, according to NCDOT.

Construction is related to the replacement of two bridges along Interstate 40, one in each direction over Beaverdam Road. NCDOT said it is part of a $33 million contract that’s expected to be completed in April 2028…
