MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — A longtime Horry County Police Department (HCPD) captain says he was pushed out of his job after reporting what his attorneys describe as wrongdoing within the department.
Attorneys with Axelrod and Associates held a press conference in Horry County on behalf of Capt. Danny Furr, saying he served with the HCPD for more than 20 years. According to the attorneys, Furr was asked to retire early after he reported concerns about wrongful actions within the department to his superior.
Attorney Jonathan McCoy said the department treated Furr unfairly after he raised those concerns. McCoy said Furr reported wrongdoing to his superior and, as a result, was placed on probation and was no longer allowed to train incoming officers. McCoy said Furr’s actions were protected speech…
