U.S. Drought Monitor shows majority of Grand Strand, Pee Dee in extreme drought conditions

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Counties across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee are continuing to be affected by severe and extreme drought conditions, according to weekly statistics released by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Although Thursday has brough some rain so far to the area, it will not be enough to move counties out of their current drought conditions.

A map released Thursday shows that all of Marlboro County, the majority of Horry County, and parts of Marion, Florence, Dillon, and Darlington counties are all in extreme drought conditions.

“Most areas will get up to 0.25″ of rain, which will make this the driest April on record in North Myrtle Beach,” News13 Meteorologist Hannah Rahner said Thursday…
