AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – A man accused of planning an attack during a Fourth of July event in Canyon in 2025 was rearraigned in federal court Wednesday after previously agreeing to plead guilty to allegedly attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
Kevin Alexander Hunt agreed to plead guilty one charge of “Attempted Use of a Weapon of Mass Destruction” on April 9, as noted in previous reports. That plea agreement came after he was found competent to stand trial in January.

Hunt was initially arrested in July 2025 for allegedly having components of explosives. Court documents accused him of knowingly possessing “components of an explosive weapon, namely: Hexamethylene Triperoxide Diamine (HMTD) or Hexamine or Citric Acid or Hydrogen Peroxide 17% or Energetic Powder or BB’s or Shot from Shotgun Shells or Electric Matches or Pyrotechnic Firing Device.”
