Nueces County declares local disaster over severe drought and water shortage

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County officials have declared a local disaster due to worsening drought conditions that are rapidly draining the region’s water supply and pushing Corpus Christi closer to emergency shortages on Thursday.

County officials said the declaration comes as the Nueces River watershed remains in an “exceptional drought,” with weather forecasts showing little to no relief in sight.
