Wellington’s Girls Softball Squad Aims To Defend State Title

If the Wellington High School girls varsity softball team is going to successfully defend its Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 7A state championship, then the Wolverines must defeat the Warriors from Jupiter High School in the postseason, possibly twice.

Basically, Wellington and Jupiter are mirror images of one another. Both squads are the two top high school softball teams in Palm Beach County and are ranked fifth (Wellington) and sixth (Jupiter) in the most recent Class 7A state rankings. Both teams played for the championship of the Class 7A, District 12 tournament on Wednesday, April 29 at WHS. The result was not available at press time.

Both teams qualified for the district title game by winning their respective semifinal games on Monday, April 27. Wellington (15-5) defeated John I. Leonard High School (7-4), 15-0, while Jupiter (18-3) outscored Palm Beach Central High School (4-11), 7-0, by virtue of a forfeit…
