CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Water was cut off Friday afternoon to people living in the Sedgefield neighborhood due to a report of a gasoline smell in it.
Charlotte Water officials say they received calls around 12:45 p.m. from personnel reporting the smell in the water in the south Charlotte neighborhood. Field crews shut off water to impacted homes out of an abundance of caution, and later determined it did not impact water quality or public health.
Officials said after after testing samples, water in the area meets Environmental Protection Agency standards and is safe for drinking and everyday use. The tests, however, did identify trace amounts (parts per billion) of a gasoline-like substance in some samples…
