Suspect not found at scene of SWAT response along Highway 17 Bypass in Socastee, sheriff’s office says

SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County deputies’ efforts to arrest a man Friday afternoon that drew a SWAT response to a building off Highway 17 Bypass in Socastee ended without his capture, the sheriff’s office said.

The scene unfolded along Frontage Road just off of Highway 17 Bypass across from Palmetto Pointe in the Socastee area, where more than a dozen Horry County Sheriff’s Office and Horry County Police Department vehicles swarmed to the scene shortly after 3 p.m.

Frontage Road was blocked by authorities for more than hour, but as of about 4:45 p.m., law-enforcement vehicles had began leaving the scene. The sheriff’s office said there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Authorities set up a perimeter around a building at 4835 Highway 17 Bypass, Horry County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brennan Cavanagh said. They also evacuated adjacent units in the building, and people in nearby businesses sheltered in place…
