(WGHP) — Comic book lovers, get ready for Free Comic Book Day on Saturday in the Piedmont Triad with special edition comics.
The annual event returns to comic book shops across the country on Saturday, and Triad-area comic book shops, like Acme Comics and Ssalefish Comics, have built up hype for the big day.

The event was first launched in 2002 by Diamond Comic Distributor. It gives readers a chance to discover and sample titles they may not have otherwise picked up, and it gives comic publishers a chance to tease upcoming series and plots.
“Free Comic Book Day comes from the mind of longstanding comic book retailer Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics in California as a means of outreach to offer samples of what the comic book industry has to offer to the general public, not just existing clientele,” said Jermaine Exum, owner of Acem Comics in Greensboro.
