Niagara County Woman Charged Under Leandra’s Law After 3-year-old Found Unrestrained

A North Tonawanda woman has been arrested and charged under Leandra’s Law after the Niagara County Sheriff’s office says she was driving while impaired with a 3-year-old child who was not properly secured in the vehicle.

Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti announced that 49-year-old Vanessa Scarfone was taken into custody on May 1st after deputies conducted a traffic stop on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Town of Wheatfield. The stop was initiated following a civilian complaint reporting a vehicle traveling with an unsecured young child passenger. Deputies also observed the vehicle commit a traffic violation by failing to signal a lane change.
