Leo Sowerby: Grand Rapids’ Pulitzer Prize winning composer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan is home to some prolific musicians. Madonna, the queen of pop, was born in The Mitten State. Aretha Franklin, the queen of soul, was a Detroit legend. Eminem, Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Jack White, Diana Ross and Iggy Pop — all native Michiganders.

None of those superstars have ever won a Pulitzer Prize, but Michigan has a handful of those, too — including Grand Rapids’ own Leo Sowerby.
