News photos: Ohio’s 250 Buckeye Train

DENNISON, Ohio — America 250 and Salute to Veterans locomotives from Genesee & Wyoming’s Ohio Central Railroad provided the power for the 250 Buckeye Train, which ran last weekend (April 25-26) as part of Ohio’s celebration of the U.S. Semiquincentennial.

The weekend featured round-trip excursions from Columbus on Saturday, April 25, and Newark, Ohio, on Sunday, April 26, to the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum. The former Pennsylvania Railroad station dates to 1873, and was named a National Historic Landmark in 2011. It is noted particularly for its role in World War II because of the strategic location of the city’s railroad yards and a Salvation Army Canteen for servicemen that operated from March 1942 to April 1946.

Each train had a three-hour layover at Dennison, where the museum hosted the Transportation Celebration, including World War II reenactments, flyovers by historic aircraft, a car show, and other events…
