School, nonprofit fix up kids’ bikes ahead of Bike to School Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Before schoolchildren ride in droves for National Bike to School Day on Wednesday, they could get their bicycles fixed up and ready to roll at a local elementary school.

Sunday afternoon, Northcrest Elementary hosted a bike-fix-up day for kids around the neighborhood to come out and get their bike tires filled with air, chains greased, or whatever their bike may need. Partnering with Pedals of Hope, some kids even went home with a new bicycle.

“We have a lot of neighborhood kids that sometimes ride to school and sometimes do not,” said Jasmine Youngblutt, the Assistant Principal of Northcrest Elementary. “So we saw there was a need to get some bikes tuned up, some bike exposure, get kids bikes that didn’t have bikes, so we kind of partnered up together.”…
