Driver charged in serious injury hit-and-run of 14-year-old in Iowa

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — An arrest has been made in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 14-year-old girl who was riding a scooter Sunday night.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Mario Palafox-Manzano, 18, is being held in the Polk County Jail on charges of:

  • Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident
  • Failure to Render Aid
  • No Insurance
  • No Valid Driver’s License

The crash happened around 6:25 p.m. near the intersection of NW 94th Avenue and Highway 415, according to the PCSO. The victim was transported to a metro hospital with serious injuries and an update on her condition has not been provided.
