Police say Evansville man attempted to reenter burning building, resisted officers

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – An Evansville man was arrested on Monday after authorities say he resisted arrest and attempted to reenter a home that had been burning on Austin Avenue multiple times after being told to leave the area.

According to an affidavit, officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Austin Avenue on Monday to a report of a possible fight. Evansville Fire Department crews were at the scene of a fire at the location, and reported they had one person detained, identified by authorities as Kevin Nett, 39.

Investigators say fire crews were at the scene investigating the fire as a possible arson when Nett, a resident of the home that was on fire, entered the trailer after he was told to stay out. Nett was restrained by fire investigators, but reportedly broke free from handcuffs and attempted to reenter the trailer…
