BUFFALO, N.Y. — A new survey from the Homeless Alliance of Western New York shows the of unhoused people in Western New York has hit a record.
The 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count conducted in January, shows 2,188 people are experiencing homelessness across Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming counties. That’s the highest recorded since data collection began in 2005, and 24% up from just last year.
Of the people surveyed this year, 51% are single adults, and 49% are family households (31% of those counted were children under 18.)…
