“The foul odor was overwhelming”: Evansville couple charged with child neglect

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — A couple in Evansville is charged with child neglect after police found their child living in unsafe conditions.

An affidavit says deputies were called to a home on Fawn Creek Drive to assist DCS in contacting a child’s father and stepmother. Deputies say they smelled a foul odor coming from the home when they arrived.

Deputies made contact with the child’s father, identified as Jeremy Rains, who let them into the home. Inside the home, deputies found unsanitary and unsafe conditions. Trash, dirt and animal feces were scattered around the home. One deputy says the floor was so soft in some areas of the home that he was scared he could fall through…
