TRAVELERS EXPECT DELAYS | Roadwork begins on Patterson Ave near Ford Airport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Drivers heading to and from Gerald R. Ford International Airport should plan for extra travel time as road improvement work gets underway on Patterson Avenue.

Construction runs from 36th Street to 44th Street and is scheduled from May 4 through June 5, 2026, though the timeline is weather-dependent and subject to change, according to the Kent County Road Commission (KCRC).

KCRC said the project involves removing and replacing the existing pavement. Specifically, crews will mill out four inches of concrete and two inches of underlying asphalt, replacing it with two new courses of hot mix asphalt.
