Playa del Rey – A suspected road rage incident turned deadly early Sunday when a white Jeep struck a family vehicle, killing a 14-month-old boy and his uncle while leaving the child’s aunt on life support.[1][2] The father survived with serious injuries, and police continue their search for the driver who fled the scene. Family members described a harrowing encounter that escalated into tragedy on a quiet West Los Angeles street.
The Fatal Collision
Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle crash at 4:34 a.m. on May 3 in the 6800 block of Vista Del Mar, near Culver Boulevard.[1] The impact sheared off the passenger side of a BMW SUV carrying four family members returning from a beach bonfire. Osvaldo Sandoval, 27, died at the scene from the force of the collision.[2]
His 14-month-old nephew, Roger Sandoval, suffered critical injuries and passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. The BMW’s driver, Roger’s father Oscar Sandoval, 25, endured multiple broken ribs but stabilized in the hospital. A neighbor who rushed to help recalled the chaos: lights flashing, smoke billowing, and unforgettable screams piercing the morning air.[1]
Family Points to Road Rage
Oscar Sandoval recounted how the white Jeep had aggressively flashed its lights and attempted to cut off their BMW just before the crash. The vehicle then rammed the passenger side, where Roger and Osvaldo sat, absorbing the brunt of the impact. “The Jeep hit my door where my son and brother were sitting, the ones who took the strongest impact,” Oscar said through an interpreter. “My son was still alive, but barely.”[2]…
